5 Ways to Keep on Top of Tidying Your Home
With the seasons changing and the days getting colder, it can be the perfect time to start tidying your home. Our motivation to keep on top of our homes tends to dip at this time of year, and with busy lifestyles simple tasks can seem harder to do and can quickly result in your home becoming untidy! It can all seem like a daunting task at the beginning, whether it’s remembering to make your bed every morning, or tackling those hidden away corners with your vacuum - the below suggestions will make keeping on top of your tidying much easier:
Untidy bed, untidy mind!
Making your bed can seem like a very annoying task when you’ve just woken up and are rushing to get to work, but if you get into the habit of doing this as soon as you get out of bed, your room will look instantly tidier. It only takes a couple of minutes and the impact is significant - your room looks more put together, you will no longer have to search for lost objects that were placed on your bed, and it also starts your day off in the best way.
TOP TIP: Make this task more enjoyable by switching up your bedding and cushions each season! For autumn, try adding in deeper green cushions mixed with a burnt orange throw to make your bedroom look as good as possible.
Declutter your space every season
Every season calls for a declutter, whether you're putting away your summer clothes or tidying out any drawers. Although this may be a lengthier task, completing it all in one week will leave you starting off the season on a new slate. A great place to begin is swapping out any summer clothes for autumn/winter clothes - putting last season's clothes into storage is a perfect way to give you more room for thicker clothing, or anything new that you buy! Storage solutions such as wardrobe organisers and drawer boxes are a great way to keep on top of your clothes organisation.
Going through your cupboards often and getting rid of anything you no longer use or need is another great way to keep on top of clutter - empty bottles and old receipts can stack up, so this is the time to start recycling and sorting.
TOP TIP: Declutter during the first week of every month to keep on top of it, or just at the start of each new season.
Keep your floors sparkling
Cleaning your floors can be a tedious task, but doing so leaves your house feeling so much cleaner and fresher. It is easy to forget how dirty floors can become, especially with children and pets running around. It is really important to keep floors clean no matter the room, as not doing so could cause health problems. Shockingly, according to a Procesnic survey 16.4% of the public never clean their floors! If this is a task you struggle with due to your busy lifestyle then investing in some products to assist you could be beneficial. For example, the F20 WashVac allows you to wash and vacuum flooring in one, keeping floors as clean as possible without having to actively do both. The M8 Pro Robot Vacuum is also a great product for keeping on top of tackling the dreaded floor clean as it can vacuum whilst you’re not even there!
Cleaning the kitchen
Kitchens can get messy and untidy very easily, so cleaning as you go is the best way to keep on top of this and will make the cooking experience easier and stress-free. Putting things away as you go along, loading the dishwasher straight away, and unloading the dishwasher every morning can save you a lot of time and effort - you can also kindly ask the family to clean up after themselves too.
TOP TIP: Keep the kitchen clean and organised with some storage boxes and canisters.
Knowing when it is ‘clean enough’
Sometimes it is hard to stop yourself when cleaning, especially if you are a perfectionist. It is important to know that not every area of your house will always be perfectly pristine. A deep clean is not necessary every week, but keeping each room tidy and at a good standard will make things easier. To prevent yourself getting caught up in a deep clean every single week, try setting a cleaning schedule - focus on tidying a different room each day, and schedule a deep clean once a month.
TOP TIP: Set an hour a day aside for tidying and cleaning to keep on top of it all without overdoing it and feeling more stressed at the weekend!
Although life can get busy at times, it is important to keep your house tidy and clean so you can maintain a positive and comfortable environment to come back to at the end of each day. However, it is vital to stay relaxed about it - it doesn't have to be a chore! Adding in a schedule and investing in ways to make it that little bit easier are brilliant ways to keep on top of it all.
