Circular Design In Motion: Freitag Launches Mono[pa6] Musette As A Solo Bag

Sustainability meets innovation once again as FREITAG responds to popular demand by releasing the Mono[PA6] Musette as a standalone item. Previously available only as part of the Mono[PA6] Backpack set, the musette now embarks on its own journey—offering FREITAG fans a minimalist, featherlight and fully circular bag that stands alone.

FROM BACKPACK ADD-ON TO SOLO STAR

The Mono[PA6] Backpack, launched in spring 2024, introduced FREITAG’s first truly circular bag, crafted entirely from polyamide 6 (PA6)—commonly known as nylon. Designed with a detachable outer pocket, the musette quickly gained popularity in its own right. It wasn’t long before FREITAG stores in cities like Milan, Tokyo, and Amsterdam were fielding the same question: Can I buy the small bag on its own? The answer is now yes.

DESIGN THAT DELIVERS

At just 125 grams, the Mono[PA6] Musette is ideal for daily use, travel, festivals, or city commutes. Its compact size belies a surprisingly generous capacity, thanks to a clever fold-out bottom panel that adjusts to your load. The adjustable cord strap allows for multiple wearing options—across the body, over the shoulder, or even around the neck—while the water-repellent fabric ensures your belongings stay dry in unpredictable weather.

Inside, you’ll find a zipped main compartment and an internal pocket to keep essentials organised. In keeping with FREITAG’s aesthetic, the design remains sleek and functional, now proudly bearing the brand’s emblematic logo.

BUILT FOR THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY

What sets this bag apart is its mono-material construction. Every component—fabric, strap, zip, stitching—is made from PA6. This uniformity eliminates the need for disassembly and allows the entire bag to be recycled easily and efficiently. FREITAG collaborated with a textile innovator in Taiwan to develop a three-layer fabric that delivers durability and water resistance without needing mixed materials, simplifying the recycling process significantly.

When the musette reaches the end of its lifespan, it can be shredded, melted, and remade into new PA6 granulate, contributing to a sustainable production loop.

REPAIR, RETURN, RECYCLE

True to FREITAG’s ethos, the musette is made to last as long as possible. A dedicated repair service is available, and when repair is no longer feasible, the brand’s take-back programme ensures that every bag re-enters the circular economy. FREITAG stresses the shared responsibility in this process—encouraging users to care for their products and return them when they’re truly worn out.
