New Mum-day: Monday 24 January Is The Day Busy Mothers Finally Make It To The Gym

...To Start Their New Year’s Resolution.

Monday 24th January is New Mum-day — the day when busy mothers finally get to the gym to work on their New Year’s Resolution, reveals data from Curves, the women’s-only fitness club.

New sign-ups to Curves peak on the 16th January, with twice as many women joining in the third week of the month compared to the first week.

Even after signing up, it takes mums another nine days to get down to the gym and start working out, with the clubs busiest on the 24th.

Members report being unable to start work on their New Year’s Resolutions until they have:

  • Got the children back to school;

  • Reclaimed the house from Christmas decorations and mess; and

  • Caught up with their work.

Curves has urged mothers not to give up on their New Year’s Resolution, and start it on February 1st if necessary.

Joanna Dase, COO at women-only fitness club Curves, said: “Millions of mums start the new year with resolutions to get fitter and healthier, but their lives are so busy it takes until the 24th January to finally get on with their pledges.

“It may be the 21st century, but mums are still shouldering more than their fair share of the housework and childcare.

”Our members tell us they have to get the kids back to school, reclaim the house from the carnage of Christmas, and catch up on work before they can start work on their resolutions.

“But it’s never too late to start on your new year’s resolutions, so we salute all those working mothers who are getting to the gym this New Mum-day.”
