The third feature in our four week interview series with Agi Njie dives into the enchanting world of Pink Genetics where creativity meets confidence and makeup becomes a moment of magic. Known for its whimsical packaging and affirmations that inspire self belief the brand continues to blur the line between fantasy and reality. For Njie beauty isn’t just about transformation it’s about emotion joy and rediscovering a sense of play. In this conversation she opens up about childhood memories that shaped her creative vision the art of balancing professionalism with imagination and why she believes beauty should feel like a fairytale come to life.

Your packaging is known for affirmations and a fairytale-inspired feel. Why was it important to you that beauty also carried a message of positivity?
For me, beauty has always been about more than just appearance. It’s about how it makes you feel. I wanted Pink Genetics to be a reminder that makeup isn’t just a product you apply, it’s a message you carry with you. Our affirmations are little whispers of encouragement tucked into every product. I want people to feel uplifted and inspired, not just enhanced on the outside but empowered on the inside.
Collectability and play are central to Pink Genetics. Do you think adults sometimes forget that beauty can be fun?
Absolutely. As adults, we often get caught up in responsibility and perfection, and we lose the spark of play. Beauty shouldn’t feel like homework, it should feel like joy. Collectability and play bring back that sense of wonder, like opening a toy or treasure as a child. Pink Genetics is here to remind people that makeup isn’t about rules or pressure, it’s about having fun and embracing creativity.
Was there a particular childhood memory or creative influence that shaped your love for playful design?
Yes. As a child, I was always drawn to colors, sparkles, and stories that felt magical. I remember being fascinated by packaging, whether it was a candy wrapper or a toy box, because it felt like an experience before you even reached what was inside. That love of design stuck with me. It taught me that presentation is part of the story, and I wanted to carry that same sense of magic into Pink Genetics.
How do you balance the need for professional beauty standards with a brand identity that celebrates magic and imagination?
For me, the two are not opposites. Professional beauty is about quality, performance, and results, and we take that very seriously. Magic and imagination are about how we present those products and the feelings they evoke. It’s possible to have the best of both worlds, formulas that perform to professional standards, wrapped in packaging that sparks joy and imagination. That balance is what makes Pink Genetics unique.
Many brands lean on minimalism, but you’ve leaned into over the top design. Do you see that as a rebellion of sorts?
Yes, in many ways it is. Minimalism has its place, but it’s never reflected who I am or what I wanted Pink Genetics to stand for. I wanted to create a brand that felt like stepping into a fantasy, not another clean white box. So leaning into bold, over the top design is my way of saying that beauty doesn’t have to be muted to be taken seriously. It can be loud, playful, and unapologetic, and still luxurious and powerful.
The beauty industry can be serious and competitive. How do you personally keep joy and creativity alive while running a fast growing company?
I remind myself constantly of why I started, my daughters, my love for creativity, and the joy of building something magical. I stay inspired by surrounding myself with color, design, and people who uplift me. I also give myself space to dream, whether that’s brainstorming new packaging ideas or just playing with products for fun. Keeping joy alive is about remembering that beauty is a gift, not just a business.
What do you hope someone feels when they unbox a Pink Genetics product for the very first time?
I want them to feel like they’ve stepped into a fairytale. The unboxing should spark excitement, wonder, and joy, like opening a present to yourself. More than anything, I hope it feels personal, like a moment of magic created just for them. If they smile, if their heart lifts even a little, then I know Pink Genetics has done its job.
In this third instalment Agi Njie shares how Pink Genetics brings back the wonder of beauty through play positivity and unapologetic creativity. Every product tells a story every unboxing feels like a celebration and every detail carries the warmth of imagination. Through her fearless approach Njie reminds us that beauty is not only about looking good but feeling inspired and uplifted. Pink Genetics continues to stand as a joyful rebellion in a world of minimalism proving that magic and meaning can coexist beautifully.
