The first in our four week interview series opens with a story rooted in heart family and determination. For Agi Njie the founder of Pink Genetics it all began at her dining room table surrounded by boxes samples and boundless hope. What started as a simple vision soon grew into a brand defined by love connection and courage. Njie stepped into the beauty world guided not by industry experience but by instinct and purpose building a legacy that celebrates women across generations. In this opening feature she shares how chaos turned into creation and how the heart of Pink Genetics continues to beat with the rhythm of family.

Pink Genetics

When you first started Pink Genetics, boxes and samples were literally spread across your dining room table — what do you remember feeling in those early moments of creation?

I remember feeling both overwhelmed and exhilarated. My dining room table looked chaotic, boxes stacked, samples everywhere, but to me, it was a vision coming alive. There was this mix of nerves and excitement, like the beginning of an adventure I knew would change my life. It wasn’t just products on a table, it felt like the foundation of a dream, a legacy my daughters could look at and say, “Mom really did this.”

Many beauty founders start with an industry background, but you began with family as your foundation. Do you see that as your biggest strength?

Absolutely. Family is the heartbeat of Pink Genetics. I didn’t enter beauty with years of industry credentials. I entered with love, inspiration, and the desire to create something magical that mothers and daughters could share. That foundation makes the brand deeply personal and relatable. My biggest strength is that I build with heart first, then strategy. That keeps Pink Genetics authentic, inclusive, and rooted in real connection.

What was the moment you realised Pink Genetics was more than a passion project and could grow into a real brand with national recognition?

The moment came when I saw how people responded to the packaging and the storytelling. Customers weren’t just buying products, they were connecting with the experience. Seeing the joy, the excitement, and the community forming around Pink Genetics made me realize it was bigger than me. It wasn’t just a project anymore, it was a brand with a voice, a purpose, and a place in the beauty world.

Building a business alongside family can be inspiring but also challenging. How have your mother and daughters shaped the direction of Pink Genetics?

My daughters inspire everything, from product ideas to packaging that feels magical and playful. They remind me to create from a childlike sense of wonder. My mother grounds me. She’s a reminder of resilience, strength, and the importance of building something meaningful that lasts. Together, they’ve shaped Pink Genetics into a brand that balances fun, creativity, and emotional depth.

You’ve been open about the resilience required to grow a brand while navigating major life changes. How has that experience influenced the way you lead today?

It taught me patience, empathy, and strength. When you’re building a brand while life is shifting, you realize that resilience isn’t about never breaking, it’s about finding the courage to keep going. Today, I lead with compassion. I know that business isn’t just numbers and sales, it’s people, it’s community, it’s heart. Those lessons shaped me into a leader who isn’t afraid of challenges but sees them as opportunities for growth.

Every entrepreneur faces a “nearly gave up” moment. Did you have one, and if so, what pulled you through it?

Yes, there were moments when the pressure, setbacks, or self-doubt almost made me quit. What pulled me through was my why, my family, my daughters, and the vision I had for Pink Genetics. I reminded myself that if I gave up, I’d never know how magical it could become. That thought alone kept me moving forward, even on the hardest days.

Looking back now, what do you think that dining-room-table version of you would say about the brand today?

She would probably cry tears of joy. She’d say, “Look at what you’ve built. You didn’t just dream, you made it real.” She’d be proud that the chaos on the dining table turned into a brand touching people’s lives across the world. Most of all, she’d tell me never to stop believing in the magic that started it all.

Agi Njie’s journey from her dining room to the helm of Pink Genetics sets the tone for this inspiring series. Hers is a story of vision resilience and the belief that true beauty begins with connection. With each product and every story shared Pink Genetics stands as a reminder that dreams built on love and persistence can grow far beyond the table where they first began.
