• Among the most popular go-to looks include celebrities Beyonce, Billie Eilish and Kim Kardashian

• Marvel characters were especially popular, including Dr Strange and Spiderman

‘Cut & Cork’ events in London and Leeds at which party goers can get the ultimate look ahead of their holiday celebrations Brits’ most wanted Halloween costumes for 2022 include Beyonce, Billie Eilish and Kim Kardashian.

A study of 2,000 adults also discovered Will Smith, Lady Gaga and Pete Davidson are among the ‘go-to’ looks.

Marvel character get-ups are popular, including Spiderman, Dr Strange and Black Widow. Despite pop-culture clearly being favoured this Halloween, a classic witch came in first place in the top 50 list.

More than a fifth (21 per cent) believe October 31st is an opportunity for them to express the quirky side of their personality, while 18 per cent put a lot of time and thought into their spooky look.

When it came to duos, Stranger Things’ Eleven and Mike, Coleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy following the Wagatha Christie drama and loved-up Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker featured.

It also found despite no longer being PM, Boris Johnson came in at number 12 in the list of people Brits plan to dress up as.

The research was commissioned by one of the UK’s favourite wine brands, 19 Crimes, champions of rebellion and defiance, ahead of launching its special Halloween events: the ‘Cut & Cork’ barber shop Halloween takeovers, taking place in Leeds (Friday 28th October) and London (Saturday 29th October). Complimentary makeovers, based on the most popular iconic looks from the survey, will be on offer from professional barbers, hairstylists and makeup artists, to get guests Halloween-party ready. As well as the spooky spruce ups, guests will be able to enjoy a tumbler of 19 Crimes wine to fully embrace the everyday moment of rebellion.

Among the most influential TV shows and films for Halloween looks, which will inspire the looks on offer at the 19 Crimes events, were Stranger Things, House of the Dragon and Top Gun: Maverick.

Ben Blake, Head of Marketing for EMEA at Treasury Wine Estates, said: “It’s great to see how many people are planning to go all out for Halloween this year and express their quirkier sides through creative fancy dress.

“The results show it is clear pop-culture has had a big impact on outfit options, whether it’s politicians, fictional characters or celebrities.

“To celebrate the most subversive date in the calendar, we’re excited to launch the Cut & Cork event, hosted at barber chain shops, Barber Barber, in London and Leeds, on the weekend of Halloween.

“People can come along to get ready with us and achieve epic Halloween grooming based on this survey’s most popular looks with barbers on hand for hair styling as well as professional make-up artists. Attendees will get party-ready looking their best, scariest – or most rebellious, depending on the aim.”

The study also found 43 per cent plan to celebrate Halloween this year.

This includes attending or hosting a house party (25 per cent), going on a night out (22 per cent) and taking younger relatives trick-or-treating (21 per cent).

Almost a fifth think outfits should be funny (19 per cent), while 33 per cent prefer scary.

Four in 10 adults claim they are a fan of fancy dress and typically spend £28.50 each on outfits and more than an hour – 62 minutes – perfecting their look for the event.

Almost half go on to share photos of their Halloween appearances on social media. A third even prefer fancy dress as an adult, compared to 23 per cent who enjoyed it more as a child.

People typically look at films (23 per cent), TV shows (21 per cent) and Instagram (18 per cent) for inspiration, with 27 per cent believing social media trends influence looks today.

Other ways fancy dress outfits have evolved over the years include readily made outfits being more available (29 per cent) and people being more creative (28 per cent).

A further fifth believe there are more group and couple outfit options nowadays and 40 per cent prefer to dress up as part of an ensemble while 36 per cent would rather be a solo character.

Of those polled via OnePoll, 44 per cent tend to buy a ready-made outfit while 39 per cent typically make their own.

Ben Blake, added: “If, like the 43 per cent of those polled, you’re planning to let your rebellious streak run wild and celebrate Halloween this year, and you’re based in or close to London or Leeds, why not book to attend the free events taking place in Leeds (4-7pm, Friday 28th October, Barber Barber, LS1 6JS) and London (4-7pm, Saturday 29th October, Barber Barber, E1 6AA).

Both events are free to attend, but there are limited slots available to join us and get your Halloween makeover and sample 19 Crimes wine. In order to secure your spot, book via Eventbrite: here for the Leeds event, and here for the London event.
