HM Visits: Flat Three

With restaurants and bars now back in action, the search for some of London best establishments continue. With there being thousands of restaurants in the capital its hard some times to stand out from the crown, but there is something about Holland Park's Flat Three that puts them in a list of places you must eat at, in London.

The London borough of Kensington & Chelsea is home to what has to be one of London's top British / Asian Fusion restaurants, Flat Three. The establishment based in Holland Park, boasts a beautiful sophisticated interior, with a simplistic Asian feel to it. The small team at Flat Three have proven they are taking the health and safety incredibly serious. Following the guidelines set by the UK government and going that extra mile to ensure their customers enjoy a nice evening without having to let they current pandemic worry them. The team is very small, with the 4o seated restaurant having just two hosts and 3 chefs at any time running the venue, something that i feel makes the experience even better, at no point did the service feel rushed or feel like the hosts were stressed , which sometime you do get with smaller teams. The chefs, who work in an stunning open kitchen, easily viewable from every seat in the restaurant, were second to none.

Upon our visit we were treated to an exquisite 4 course meal. Staring with Mochi Flat bread and golden potatoes with a tofu fermented butter, it was the perfect way to start the meal, so many flavours and textures just exploding in your mouth. The Potato for me is one of the hardest things to do something new with, but at Flat Three, this was exceptional and with the butter too, it kicked the meal off to the perfect start.

We then moved onto the Charred Courgette and Wild Garlic sauce, the sauce in this dish was beautiful, it could've been a cold soup kind of dish and I would have eaten every last drop up. The Courgette with nice and soft but it did have a little bite to it, for me Al dente is how vegetables like this should be cooked otherwise you could just end up with slodge in a bowl. You could really taste how fresh the courgette was even with the garlic sauce, a dish that I would definitely have again.

Our third course was Sea bass, shiso and Ponzu, obviously being an a British / Asian fusion restaurant, I was excited to a twist on something I had eaten many times before and the chefs didn't let me down, The poached piece of sea bass just melted on the fork and in your mouth, beautifully cooked and went incredibly with the soy dressing. A very light main meal which is perfect for that summer evening.

We ended our meal with Milk Ice cream and Whey Caramel, just like the rest of the meal this didn't disappoint the Milk Ice cream was creamy and when so well with the caramel and sesame seed sauce, which was one of the best toppings on any ice cream ive ever eaten, topped with rice cakes and whey, it was what i would call the perfect summer meal.
