According to new research by leading global hydration specialist, waterdrop®, 66% of the UK population is not drinking enough water every day, with this percentage rising to 79% when it comes to people over 65 years old.

The global study which sampled 1000 people from the UK between the ages of 17 and 99 years old found that 26% don’t feel the need to drink water and 45% never think about it.

Furthermore, 90% of participants say they have experienced signs of dehydration, including water retention, dry mouth, headaches and more.

With water making up more than half of our body mass, and the main component of several vital organs, 75% of the brain and 71% of the liver, maintaining good hydration is vital for transporting nutrients and oxygen around the body, keeping our energy levels up, our cells working properly and our skin healthy. With the summer temperatures set to sore, the amount of sweat expelled during these months increases which makes it particularly important to replace the fluid lost in sufficient quantities.

To help combat dehydration amongst the UK population during the summer months and all year round, waterdrop has developed a hydration application tracker and a smart cap. This application allows people to track their drink consumption and set daily goals together with the smart cap, which also allows water filtration thanks to the UV-C filtration system.

With 49% of the UK population still drinking bottled water, waterdrop is determined to encourage water consumption while reducing the use of plastic. waterdrop® in partnership with Plastic Bank, has pledged to collect one plastic bottle for every 12-pack sold, meaning consumers can not only drink more sustainably, but they can also support waterdrop's cause for a better future for the environment.

The hydration application tracker is available to download for IOS and Android and the Lucy Smart Cap will be available to purchase from 30th June from waterdrop.com.
