Introducing the rentable coffin

Founder Sophia embraces the circular economy with her pioneering concept, which aims to support lower-income families, whilst also protecting the environment.

The Wild Agency is thrilled to let you in on a little secret! The Agency has been appointed to work on behalf of Woven Farewell Coffins. Woven Farewell (based in West Dorset) and owner Sophia Campbell lovingly crafts sustainable willow coffins. Sophia ensures utmost care is put into sourcing all the materials. Willow is one of the most environmentally sound materials, as it only takes a year to grow and is fully compostable. Organic hemp is also used for the coffins' load-bearing rope handles and local timber for the fixings and frame slats. Sophia says, "I am also passionate about making my coffins accessible to lower-income families, without compromising on quality and ensuring we move away from the single-use, less sustainable culture of funerals. With that in mind, I am developing my new product! A rentable, willow coffin for use in funerals, to rent from me, or for funeral directors to rent! Watch this space!"

Sophia enjoys supporting the growing movement of family-centric funerals. She says, “To empower our families we also encourage them to help us weave part of the coffin in our workshop. This experience is provided at no extra cost and no weaving knowledge is necessary.” She adds, “I am working with The Wild Agency to showcase different aspects of my brand; utilising video and social media to bring some really important issues to the forefront. I am combining the huge circular benefits of the rental market with the magical, sustainable properties of willow! Plus I want to bring light and love to what can be an ultimately dark topic - death!” Sophia also won a Best Businesswoman Award’ in 2021, and she's one of the only coffin producers in the country to donate part of her profits to charity, namely The Woodland Trust. Soon she will be raffling one of her handcrafted willow foraging backpacks to raise £1000 for Ukraine. Please support the cause and keep an eye on Woven Farewell's social media to take part! Mike Coggan, Managing Director of The Wild Agency says; “Sustainability is the key throughout all of Sophia's practices; working with Woven Farewell and such an inspiring founder brings us real joy. We look forward to continuing to support Sophia along her remarkable journey.”
