There is a quiet electricity around Ray Chu this season. The Taipei born designer is not interested in spectacle for the sake of it. He is interested in the charge that runs through a room when something feels both familiar and completely new. His clothes live in that tension. Bold body conscious cuts meet fluid drapes. Unapologetic sensuality is softened by moments of poetry. As he prepares to stage one of the most intriguing shows at London Fashion Week, Chu speaks with Hinton Magazine about rhythm, intimacy and why he wants the audience to leave not only impressed but inspired to claim their individuality.

When guests take their seats this season, what do you most want them to feel as the first looks step onto the runway?

I want them to feel a spark — that sense of curiosity when something familiar is reimagined in an unexpected way. The first looks set the tone of empowerment & sensuality, all wrapped in the energy of resilience that defines RAY CHU.

Every show has its own rhythm and atmosphere. How have you shaped the experience for the audience this year?

This season we’re combining the immediacy of a catwalk with the intimacy of a presentation. It creates a rhythm that shifts between movement and pause, allowing the audience to fully absorb the craftsmanship, textures, and details. The atmosphere is dynamic, yet emotionally connected.

Can you give us a glimpse into the kind of silhouettes and moods people might discover in this collection?

Expect bold, body-conscious silhouettes alongside fluid, draped shapes that echo freedom and organic movement. There’s a contrast between structure and flow — reflecting both resilience and softness. The mood is unapologetic, sexy, but also poetic.

Beyond the clothes themselves, what elements of the show do you think will surprise or intrigue the audience most?

The set design — it’s conceived as an art installation inspired by the collection. It’s not just a backdrop.

How have you approached translating your creative vision into something that feels both visually striking and emotionally resonant on the runway?

For me, it’s always about balance: bold aesthetics paired with meaning. We’ve used sustainable, innovative fabrics with tactile qualities — mint-scented textiles, cooling ice plant fibers, and cocoa shell fabrics — to connect fashion with the senses. This creates not just visual impact but an emotional reminder that beauty and sustainability can coexist.

When the lights go down and the final look closes the show, what lasting impression do you hope this season leaves behind?

I want people to walk away with the feeling that fashion can be daring, inclusive, and deeply human at the same time. That resilience, sensuality, and sustainability aren’t separate ideas — they can live together in one vision. And above all, I want the audience to feel inspired to embrace their own individuality with confidence.

What becomes clear in conversation with Ray Chu is a designer who understands balance. Strength sits with softness. Intimacy is built into spectacle. Bold aesthetics are rooted in responsibility. His new collection presents body conscious tailoring alongside flowing silhouettes that speak of freedom and resilience. The show itself is imagined as an art installation that engages not only the eye but the senses through sustainable fabrics drawn from mint, ice plant fibres and cocoa shells. When the final look leaves the runway, Chu hopes the audience will carry more than admiration for the clothes. He wants them to take with them the reminder that fashion can be daring, inclusive and deeply human.
