HM Visits: Romulo

London is home to some of the best restaurants in the world. Most of which are always fully booked and take months to get into, and thats a reality before Covid guidelines reduced venues capacity's. So when you find a Gem like Romulo, you kinda dont want to tell anyone but a restaurant like this is too good not to be shared.

The Kensington based Filipino restaurant is swimming in rich history. One of two Romulo's in the world (the other being in the Philippines) they have brought authentic cooking from the Philippines to the UK, keeping the traditional cooking methods, but sourcing the produce locally it's a real welcome to London. For 4 years Romulo has been welcoming residents of Chelsea & Kensington plus visitors from all over London. The establishment boasts 2 food awards in 2 years, proving yet again London is the culinary capital of the UK.

Upon our visit we were welcomed to a very Covid-19 secure venue, Instantly feeling comfortable, which we know is going to be a big thing for people now. We were introduced in to their new optional ordering system, which is via a QR scanner - quite a clever idea to reduce contact between staff and customers.

We started the meal with; Sizzling chicken inasal Sisig and Braised Beef Salpicao. Both incredible dishes. The Chicken was bursting with flavours, a sweet moist chicken with a little spice kick. Brought out to the table on a sizzle plate which gave a nice smokey smell to the dish. The Beef, was perfectly cooked, The poached egg yolk on top combined with the beef gave a beautiful creamy texture. It went very will with the sticky soy-like sauce.

For our mains we went for the; 8oz Dry Aged 30 day orgainc Rib Eye Steak Tagalog and The Truffled Pork Belly Adobo Romulo Style (Adobong Baboy). Again two incredible dishes. Couldn't fault anything, from presentation to flavour it was all perfect. The Pork Belly, was very tender and was very well accompanied by the sweet potato. The beef, was personally cooked perfectly. Beef is a preference meat but this for me was perfect. Minimal fat on the Rib eye. The sauce was a subtlety smokey sauce which went well with the beef.

Along with the mains we had; Garlic rice, Grilled aubergine and Coconut and Jackfruit stew. All Delicious. The one that stood out for me was the Coconut and Jackfruit stew, this was almost like a chicken curry without chicken. the jackfruit goes beautifully with the sauce.

To end what had been a fantastic meal we had the Banana Turon, it was the perfect way to end the evening, with jackfruit ice cream the dish was ideal to top of thee great evening of food.

without a doubt Romulo is one of the best restaurants I have been to. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. The venue was beautifully designed and the food was impeccable. We would highly recommend a visit to Romulo.
