Covent Garden moves with a certain energy in the early evening. Theatre doors open, conversations spill onto the pavement, and restaurants glow with quiet invitation. Thai Square sits comfortably within this rhythm, polished and composed, offering warmth without spectacle. Inside, the lighting is soft, the tables neatly arranged, and the room carries a calm confidence that feels reassuring rather than showy.

The Mixed Starters arrived as a generous introduction. Vegetable spring rolls delivered a familiar crispness, their golden shells giving way to a gently seasoned filling that felt comforting and well judged. The chicken satay followed with a subtle smokiness, the peanut sauce smooth and rounded, coating each skewer with balanced sweetness and depth.

Thai dumplings provided a softer texture, delicately steamed and fragrant. Butterfly prawns offered contrast, their light batter crisp while the prawns within remained sweet and tender. Corn cakes added a mild warmth and faint sweetness that paired neatly with the accompanying sauces. It was a selection built on crowd pleasing classics, executed with care and consistency.

The Chicken and Mushroom Coconut Soup shifted the tone beautifully. Steam carried the perfume of galangal and lemongrass to the table before the first spoonful was taken. The broth was silky and aromatic, coconut milk lending body while lime leaves kept the flavours bright. Shimeji mushrooms introduced earthiness and roasted chillies added a gentle heat that lingered without overwhelming. It was a soothing and well balanced bowl, quietly confident in its delivery.

The Tamarind Duck arrived with composure. The roasted duck leg held crisp skin and tender meat beneath, coated in a glossy three flavoured sauce where sweetness, tang and savoury depth met in harmony. Grilled pineapple brought bursts of caramelised freshness, lifting the richness of the duck, while dried chilli sprinkles added a measured spark of heat. Steamed jasmine rice, fragrant and perfectly prepared, anchored the dish and allowed the sauce to carry through each bite.

Service throughout the meal was attentive and measured. Plates were cleared with ease, water refreshed without interruption, and the pacing felt natural. There was no rush, only a steady sense of hospitality.

Thai Square in Covent Garden offers thoughtfully prepared Thai classics in a setting that feels refined yet relaxed. The food is flavourful and satisfying, grounded in tradition rather than reinvention. In a neighbourhood filled with options, that sense of reliability and genuine care makes it a place that earns its place at the table.
