In the heart of the capital, sophistication takes on a new meaning. Nestled within the prestigious Club House Turgenev complex lies a 170 square metre apartment that embodies the quiet power of refined design. Crafted by the Moscow-based studio Makedesign, the space speaks to a philosophy where every element is intentional, where comfort meets poetry, and where beauty truly lives in the details.

Under the leadership of co-founders, architects Diana Karnaukhova and Victoria Lukyanova, Makedesign has spent more than thirteen years shaping both private and public interiors that tell stories of balance and emotion. Their latest project is no exception. Designed for a young family with three children, the apartment captures warmth without chaos and elegance without excess.

The inspiration runs deep. Central to the design is a rare private collection belonging to the homeowner – letters written by the great Russian novelist Ivan Turgenev. It is this intimate connection to literature that became the emotional heartbeat of the home. The spirit of Turgenev’s words, his quiet reflections on love and humanity, echo through the textures, tones, and materials chosen for each room.

Rather than reimagining the apartment’s structure, the team chose to preserve the original layout, celebrating its natural flow. The result is a home that feels both anchored and open. Light plays a starring role here – delicate and deliberate, it shifts through the day to embrace both energy and stillness. By evening, the glow settles into a softness that mirrors the hues of the design palette itself.

Shades of grey, pink, and beige run through the apartment like whispered harmonies. Each room carries a sense of intimacy, a lived-in elegance that never tries too hard. The palette, carefully layered and balanced, infuses the space with an understated romanticism. It feels personal yet universal – a home built for living, not merely for looking.

Makedesign’s work on the Club House Turgenev apartment shows a rare sensitivity to atmosphere. There is a sense of rhythm and restraint that defines the project, an understanding that true luxury is not loud. It exists in proportion, texture, and emotion – in the moments that quietly move you.

For Makedesign, beauty really is in the details, and here, those details come together to create something far greater than the sum of their parts. This is not just interior design; it is storytelling through space.
