This February, London audiences will be transported into the world of jazz legend Miles Davis with MILES., a bold fusion of live music and theatre exploring the life, legacy, and genius of one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. Written and directed by Oliver Kaderbhai, the production runs at Southwark Playhouse Borough from 4 February to 7 March 2026.
Delving into the creative chaos behind Davis’ iconic album Kind of Blue, the best-selling jazz record of all time, MILES. is a dynamic two-hander blending live jazz performance with multi-rolling theatrical roles. Acclaimed trumpeter Jay Phelps, who has collaborated with Wynton Marsalis, Shabaka Hutchings, Amy Winehouse, and Wizkid, joins Benjamin Akintuyosi to embody a shifting cast of characters, including Davis himself. Moving fluidly through time, memory, and influence, the production draws on Davis’ autobiography, extensive research, and archival recordings to capture the sound, pressure, and innovation that defined an artist who transformed modern music.
Oliver Kaderbhai, founder of theatre company :DELIRIUM:, explains, “Bringing Miles’ story to Southwark Playhouse Borough 100 years after his birth feels like the perfect place to explore the legacy of a complex man whose music transcends time, place and race whilst being rooted in all of those things. He created something extraordinary in a time of deep civil division and personal turmoil, and, somehow, that felt hopeful to me.”
With set and costume design by Ellie Wintour, lighting by Alex Lewer, sound by Will Tonna, and projection design by Colin J Smith, MILES. is described as a hypnotic, smoke-laced fever dream, exploring addiction, reinvention, and the explosive cost of genius. The production runs 90 minutes and is recommended for audiences aged 14 and over.
Tickets for MILES. are available from £28 standard and £22.50 concession, with preview performances from 4–7 February priced at £16. Southwark Playhouse Borough is located at 77–85 Newington Causeway, London SE1 6BD, with the nearest stations being Elephant & Castle and Borough.
