Gymbox

Disruptive fitness chain Gymbox has unveiled its latest innovative offering, 'Composed', a first-of-its-kind class fusing restorative yoga with live classical music.

Structured around a finely tuned playlist curated by professional classical musicians, this unique Holistic class invites members to melt into the melodies while working the mat – adjusting the tempo and intensity of movement to mirror the score. Members can also look forward to Composed’s magnum opus – a class accompanied by a live classical performance, held in a different club each week. Keep your eyes peeled on Gymbox’s social media pages for monthly announcements.’

The class opens with an 'overture' of breathwork to synchronise mind and body with the music. Members then move through a rejuvenating 'Act I' yoga sequence energised, starting slow and gentle before gradually building up their tempo, energy and difficulty accompanied by uplifting classical compositions.

As the intensity builds in 'Act II', the class holds balancing postures and inversions amid crescendos and dynamic classical peaks like Vivaldi and Beethoven - challenging participants to find stillness and composure within the musical swell.

The cooldown encourages deeper stretching as the music regains serenity, before a closing shavasana allowing free breathing and meditative release to gentle auditory vibrations.

By harmonising movement with the live musical vibrations, Composed enables exercisers to release physical and mental tensions, truly embodying a state of body and mind composure.

The unique class has been developed following scientific research showing the benefits of listening to classical music, including reducing stress and anxiety levels. Studies have even demonstrated music can have an "ergogenic" or performance-enhancing effect, with one experiment indicating an improvement in sprint rowing times when performed to a fast classical rhythm.

Composed also taps into the "entrainment" effect of music's repeated rhythms activating neurons to aid physical rehabilitation and regain movement control. The class's slower tempo further helps synchronise movements with heart and breath rates.

As part of the Gymbox’s holistic category, Composed offers the perfect counterbalance to more intense training days. The musically-inspired concept also provides an inclusive entry point for exploring yoga's restorative benefits.

With the proven impacts of classical music on reducing stress, boosting wellbeing, and even improving physical rehabilitation, Composed fuses ancient practice with scientific benefits - encouraging members to melt into the music for the ultimate body and mind recharge.

Hannah Curtis-Nunn, Group Fitness Director at Gymbox, said: “We're always looking to innovate and bring new, unique experiences to our members. Composed is truly one-of-a-kind, melding the ancient practice of yoga with the scientific benefits of classical music.

“The fusion of breath, movement and music creates an immersive environment for members to escape the stresses of daily life. As you flow through the vinyasas in time with the undulating rhythms, you can't help but feel a sense of harmony wash over your body and mind.

“Whether you're a yogi or just looking to restore balance, Composed offers a multi-sensory journey into calmness and composure. Let the vibrations move you as you find stillness within the crescendos - it's yoga like you've never experienced before."
