...Featuring Traditional Architectural Shapes And Decorative Motifs.

Milan's Spring/Summer 2024 fashion showcase witnessed a remarkable moment as seven Ukrainian brands illuminated the stage. This collective presence marked a significant milestone for the brands and the Ukrainian fashion industry, serving as a testament to Ukrainian designers' resilience and boundless creativity in the face of ongoing challenges.

Against the backdrop of Milan, the global epicenter of fashion, these seven brands, DUKACHI, BOBKOVA, ELENA REVA, KATERINA KVIT, KULAKOVSKY, OLIZ, and PODYH, carved their niche in the global fashion landscape. With their exceptional craftsmanship and unique design philosophies, they captured the imagination of audiences, reaffirming Ukraine's position as a rising star in the fashion world.

MEET THE BRANDS:EACH ONE TELLS A UNIQUE STORY

DUKACHI brand presented two enchanting collections, each a testament to artistry and cultural significance. "Enamel dolls" evoke the pure joy of childhood with their classic doll-like simplicity infused with vibrant colors, stirring tender memories of playtime. The "Vesnyanka dolls" collection pays homage to Ukraine's heritage, meticulously handcrafted with 18 parts, representing the connection between heaven and earth as symbolized by traditional straw dolls. These collections transcend mere jewelry, serving as tangible expressions of history, nostalgia, and craftsmanship, inviting wearers to embrace their cultural roots and cherish cherished memories.

Bobkova brand's commitment to conscious fashion production, with garments entirely crafted in Ukraine and a dedication to upcycling, showcases a responsible approach to fashion that minimizes waste. Handmade details add a unique and imperfectly beautiful touch to each piece, emphasizing the brand's dedication to craftsmanship. Furthermore, Bobkova's collection offers comfortable and versatile attire and exudes a festive and empowering mood, embodying feminine strength and beauty. Bobkova's Spring-Summer 2024 collection is a testament to the brand's values of cultural appreciation, sustainability, craftsmanship, and female empowerment, creating a fashion narrative that resonates with conscious and culturally aware consumers.

BY DESIGNER OLENA REVA, ELENA REVA's SS'24 COLLECTION draws inspiration from the Mother Goddess cult, showcasing a harmonious blend of feminine and masculine elements. Structured jackets meet transparent chiffon dresses, woolen bustier dresses contrast with silk suits, and bold palazzo pants complement expressive corsets. The fabric patterns, influenced by Trypillian jug ornaments, feature delicate florals and abstract bull prints, symbolizing femininity and strength. Traditional Ukrainian touches like "placenta" skirts and artisanal pendants add depth, while collaboration with Baglet results in minimalist bags, adding elegance and versatility to this captivating collection.

Katerina Kvit AW23-24 collection, the overarching concept encapsulates the essence of an adventurous and free-spirited woman who navigates life with grace and lightness. This collection blends iconic dresses and suits with a touch of whimsy and elegance by incorporating feathers. These feathers symbolize the wearer's boundless spirit and the sense of being lifted by the winds of her journey. Each garment, adorned with these delicate yet impactful feathers, not only enhances the visual appeal but also tells a story of the wearer's resilience and the beauty of embracing life's adventures with a sense of lightness and grace.

KULAKOVSKY's Spring-Summer 2024 collection, CLEAR HORIZON, signifies a departure from their leather-focused tradition. Inspired by Odesa and the Black Sea, the collection embodies warmth, energy, and freedom. Sandy tones, lightweight fabrics, and nautical braids define the line. It's their most feminine collection, celebrating the female form with draped tops, soft bodysuits, and midi dresses. The collection also includes relaxed pieces and reimagines past designs with denim and patchwork. CLEAR HORIZON represents a love for the past and a commitment to new horizons.

OLIZ is a Ukrainian brand known for its exquisite scarves and shawls. They collaborate with local artists to create unique patterns that are hand-drawn and copyright-protected. Using natural Italian fabrics and eco-friendly dyes, OLIZ's collections are both stylish and environmentally responsible. They also prioritize ethical production practices, supporting artisans and artists while creating well-paid jobs.

Ukrainian fashion label PODYH, founded by architect Daria Plaksyuk, presents its SS24 collection, KHYZHA, inspired by Ukrainian architecture and the Carpathian region. This collection creatively integrates traditional architectural shapes and decorative motifs into garments, celebrating Ukraine's rich cultural heritage. PODYH's accessories mimic conventional roofing techniques, uniquely combining fashion and architecture. With each item named after a Ukrainian architectural inspiration, PODYH embodies a mission to bridge architecture and style, inviting wearers to embrace a unique art form that tells the story of Ukrainian heritage.

The Spring/Summer 2024 showcase in Milan was a powerful reminder of fashion's transformative power and the human spirit's resilience. These Ukrainian brands, driven by their passion and creativity, continue to shape the ever-evolving tapestry of global fashion trends.

Elena Reva, founder of the Elena Reva brand, expressed, “This project stands out among other events and projects due to its unique approach and effective support of Ukrainians. The location, namely Milan, also played an important role in creating a special atmosphere and the project's success. We are thrilled to introduce our craftsmanship to the international market with the support of USAID and Angel for Fashion.”

The partnership between Ukrainian brands and the U.S. Agency for International Development in Ukraine, particularly the grant awarded to Lviv Fashion Week, underscored the significance of nurturing and celebrating Ukraine's burgeoning fashion talent as a driver of economic recovery.

Jen Sidary, Founder and CEO of Angel for Fashion, highlighted the significance of this collaboration, stating, “It’s the first time we had a Fashion Presentation Event which was held in New York on the evening of September 10th, the first time we showcased the Ukrainian designers in Milan, Italy and it was our second anniversary of showing the designers at fashion weeks around the world. I could have never dreamt two years ago that we would have grown so much in such a short time and be representing 16 different brands when we started with only four. This has been the most inspiring point of my thirty-year career in fashion, and with all the orders we have received from customers around the globe on ANGELFORFASHION.com, I know it’s just a matter of time before many of the Ukrainian brands are household names.”

As the world looks toward the future of fashion, it is clear that Ukraine has firmly established itself as a force to be reckoned with. The Spring/Summer 2024 showcase in Milan was not just a fashion event but a celebration of the enduring spirit of Ukrainian designers who dare to dream, create, and inspire.
